EMAM511 Introduction to Finance and Accounting

Objective

The importance of financial information in decision making by managers, market analysts and bankers requires deep knowledge and comprehension of accounting concepts and corporate finance.

The objective of this course is to introduce students to basic accounting mecanisms and use them in financial anlysis in order to make decisions. Concepts will be studied in a European approach.

Learning Outcome

After this seminar, students should be able:

EMAM512 Marketing

Objective

Referring to the hyper competitive context companies and organizations are facing and the need of an integrated approach of commercial policies (strategic and operational marketing) , this seminar aims to help the trainees to build a better understanding of the main marketing issues and to be able to use themain marketing analysis and decision making tools.

EMAM513 Sustainable Strategy

Objective

Referring to the current global economic context such as the development of a multi-polar world and the increasing interest for worldwide environmental and social challenges, this seminar is dedicated to a better understanding of Corporate Strategy in relationship with the concepts of Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility.

This seminar aims at raising awareness amongst students regarding the increasing importance of considering economic, but also social and environmental aspects, in strategic management, (i.e. in corporate strategic analysis, in strategic decision making and in strategic deployment).

Learning Outcome

After this seminar, students should be able:

  • To integrate in a holistic view the various management concepts studied during the 4 first years of their university education, to synthesize and bear in mind the essential ones in each discipline;

  • To broaden their knowledge of Corporate Strategy integrating the Sustainability and CSR visions in management;

  • Within the challenge, to make strategic decisions in teams (time and conflict management, negotiation abilities) stressing the interdependence of the company’s activities;

EMAM514 People Management

Objective

In the hyper competitive environment businesses and organizations are currently facing, the ability to attract and retain scarce competences becomes a more and more valuable asset. Theissue of people management has thus moved from an administrative perspective to a more strategic approach, where one of the major challenges consists at aligning the HRM (Human Resources Management) policy with the corporate strategy.

In this context, the people management seminar aims at raising awareness amongst participants regarding the increasing importance of HRM in the success of a business as well as at givingthe students a better understanding of the main HRM issues private companies and publicorganizations are currently facing.

It also offers an in-depth view on several approaches that might be used to manage the HR, depending on the firms strategies and on several contextual factors. The seminar will also explore some emerging trends in HRM, in order to help the participants to develop their ownprospective vision of what could be the HRM in the future.

Learning Outcome

The organization of the course is based on an e-learning approach. The appropriation of the several topics will be facilitated by several multimedia resources provided to the participants:

  • An introductory video-presentation.

  • A ‘key-resources’ portfolio, including scientific articles, ppt presentations, case studies, etc.

  • A visio-conference to answer the questions participants might have.

Participants will also be invited to gather some data and references by themselves, in order to complete and to deepen their understanding of the main current HRM issues.

EMAM515 SIPRIDE Business Game

Introduction

SIPRIDE is a management game, i.e. an educational tool which allows the participants to practice concretely how to run a company.

That company, its market, its competition are modeled on the reality through a simulation.

A computer analyses the decisions of all the companies, while integrating the socio-economic indicators.

You are a member of the executive committee of one of the companies taking part in the game. As such you are led to work out policies ( sales, production, social and financial) and to take part in the decision-making.

The quality of your management will depend upon the consistency of your decisions in relation with the goals you set for yourself and the results achieved, especially in the following fields:

  • market position of your company with regards to your competitors

  • financial situation

  • social climate

  • development prospects

Objectives aimed at

  • Through practice, to acquire the sense of efficient management.

  • To learn to work out policies, define objectives and compare those with their achievement.

  • To practice decision-making under constraints ( especially in the fields of sales, finance, production and personnel)

  • To assess the relations between the functioning of an executive committee and the results it achieves.

Admission is selective and based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. Formal educational requirements such as degrees or diplomas plus working experience are required to satisfy the entry requirement of this programme.
